About me…
I’m Alex, I am a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker. I am endlessly fascinated by the world we live in and by the people that I meet and observe. Collaboration is the cornerstone of work as a dancer, and I deeply love learning more about myself through working with others on a shared goal. I thrive when working with people that are passionate, and willing to be weird in the pursuit of excellent, meaningful art.
Having trained and performed in a gamut of works from classical ballet to contemporary forms of dance, I greatly value precision and virtuosity in dance training, combined with a willingness to throw caution to the wind and risk all of the hard-won beauty and body-architecture in the pursuit of honest and profound expression. I like to dig in and unearth the deepest and rawest feelings and ideas about life, and express them through a combination of media: dance, theatre, film, mime, sound design, and whatever else I have access to.
I began my journey as an artist in theatre classes when I was 15 years old. After learning the fundamentals of acting and vocal performance, I found myself frustrated and intrigued by dance when I was cast in my high school’s musical. Though I had much love for theatre (especially puppetry and physical theatre), I decided to take dance class at age 16. Having experimented with many other forms of art – visual and musical, painting and clarinet – when I began studying dance, everything clicked into place, and I find myself a decade later working as a professional in a dance company career.
